專輯的頭三首歌曲選自 Van Halen 早期的作品， 七十年代，
在 David Lee Roth 作為主唱的時代，吉他手Eddie 和
Alex Van Halen，以及貝斯手Michael Anthony 配合著
David Lee Roth 囂張（確切地說，是 Yankee 式的幽默）
的作風，Van Halen 的風格極為張狂。 而 David 本人，則
沉醉于扮演著天才、丑角、雜技演員的多重角色，他的運動，
裝模作樣的鬼馬表情，當然，還要附加上具有魔力般的嗓音，
以及不可忽略的 Eddie 巫術般的演奏，樂隊熱烈潑辣的風格
簡直使歌迷對他們達到了瘋狂擁捧的程度。而且，哇哦，看，
喇叭褲蛤蟆鏡，雙卡答錄機，色迷迷的痞子表情，這些明顯就
是80年代中國大地各路豪傑的標準裝束嘛，看來美國青年卻是
引領了時尚潮流二十年。 Van Halen 的音樂會幾乎就是拉斯
維加斯般花樣百出的表演現場 - 空中飛人、劈叉、倒立，貓
步，一切的一切都搞笑無比，卻又令人興奮莫名。

1985年 Sammy Hagar 代替 David 加入了樂隊，也帶來了完
全不同的風格 - 更加強力，更加旋律，儘管這不見得受
David 眾多 Funs 的待見，但 Van Halen 卻仍舊保持著高
水準，甚至屢有驚喜帶給大家 - 嚴肅的主題，高亢而具有穿
透力的嗓音，無法不吸引來眾人的眼球。鑒於 Sammy 能唱能
做，專輯中選了不少他擔任主唱時期的作品，譬如
“When it's Love”就是一例。 “Dreams”節選自 the
Whiskey-a-Go-Go 。而倒數第二首“Humans Being”，則是
Sammy 在 Van Halen 中錄製的最後一首歌（也是我最喜歡
的歌曲之一），這首歌被收錄在電影“龍捲風”的原聲大碟中
。

最後一首“Without You”，是 Sammy 走人後，原 Extreme
主唱 Gary Cherone （插一句廣告，死魂靈王最近發佈了他
的一張EP，“Need I Say More”，有興趣者可以看看）加盟
錄製的新曲。雖然當時的我很期待能有火花擦出，但結論是挺
令我失望的，但無論如何，這首歌在概念的營造上還是比較不
錯的。看看吧。

最後，我下載了還有一個視頻檔，裡面包括“Me Wise Magic”
，但是找不到了，失望ing。

專輯評論：

These are excellent videos, well produced and
filmed, and Van Halen is in top form on all of
them. The first three are from the David Lee Roth
era, who was lead singer back when brothers Eddie
and Alex Van Halen started the group in the late
'70s, along with Michael Anthony on bass. David is
part acrobat/clown, part Vegas glitzy showman,
and very entertaining with his athletic, campy
humor; he's also a good vocalist for that type of
material, backed by the solid musicianship of the
group, and the guitar wizardry of Eddie.

Enter Sammy Hagar, replacing David in 1985, and
giving the group a different style, with some of
the material leaning towards serious subjects,
stronger vocals ("When it's Love" is superb), and
though it doesn't have the fun of the David era,
it's equally lively. "Dreams" has the footage
from the Whiskey-a-Go-Go, and the final song,
"Humans Being", is also the last that Sammy
recorded with the group, and it is part of the
soundtrack for the hit movie "Twister".
